What Are Some of the Most Dangerous Locations for Pedestrians in Nashville?

Nashville has seen an increase in pedestrian/car -related wrecks and deaths over the last few years and these numbers will likely only increase as drivers continue to engage in behavior that is both careless and distracting. 5. Charlotte Avenue between 3rd Avenue North and 5th Avenue North
6. 21st Avenue between 19th Avenue South and Edgehill Avenue
7. Murfreesboro Pike between Bell Road and Rural Hill Road
8. Dickerson Pike between Trinity Lane and Gatewood Avenue
9. Gallatin Pike between Due West Avenue and Berkley Drive
10. Church Street between 15th Avenue North and 16th Avenue North
11. Broadway between George E. Davis Blvd. and 11th Avenue
12. Clarksville Pike between Buena Vista Pike and Cliff Drive
13. Gallatin Pike between Harrington Avenue and South Maple Street
14. Murfreesboro Pike between Thompson Lane and Bowwood Court
15. Gallatin Pike between Eastland Avenue and Chickamauga Avenue
16. Gallatin Pike between Shepherd Hills Drive and Liberty Lane
17. Gallatin Pike between Lakewood Drive and Walton Lane
18. Hillsboro Pike between Graybar Lane and Abbott Martin Road
19. Mainstreet between Neill Avenue and South 9th Street
20. Second Avenue North between Church Street and Broadway

The source highlighted that between 2010-2013, 18 people have been killed at these locations and 257 suffered injuries, and sadly, little improvement has been seen since these statistics were last reported. Between 2014 to August 2018, 78 people have been killed while out walking in Nashville and another 1,636 suffered an injury. So far this year, Nashville has already seen 17 pedestrians get killed in wrecks and with the end of daylight savings time quickly approaching, this number could potentially jump higher. It is for this very reason that Walk Bike Nashville is suggesting that the city add more crosswalks to the roadways. Although crosswalks don’t prevent all accidents, they definitely help reduce the chances of one occurring as drivers are more inclined to look for a pedestrian when a crosswalk is present.
