NASHVILLE, TN – At least five vehicles, including three semi trucks and a Metro police car, were involved in a crash on I-40 Tuesday.
According to WKRN, the crash took place on I-40 near the Old Hickory Boulevard exit around 3:00 AM.
The first semi truck was pulling a front end loader when the bucket detached on the roadway. A second semi truck crashed into the bucket, causing the front axle of the truck to disconnect. A third semi truck crashed into the broken axle in the roadway.
After Metro police arrived at the scene, another vehicle rear-ended the police cruiser. The vehicle subsequently fled the scene of the crash.
It is unclear if any of the drivers suffered injuries as a result of the accident.
The section of I-40 surrounding the accident remained closed to traffic until 8:30 AM as first responders cleared the scene.
Tennessee Highway Patrol and Metro police continue to investigate the crash.
