Nashville is one city like many others across the U.S. that attract tourists who are celebrating an exciting time in their life or are simply looking to explore a new city they have never been to before. It has become a top destination for bachorlette parties. Because the city attracts so many people, both tourists and residents, there are several different things that are offered to make their time a little more enjoyable. Throughout Nashville, you may have already seen open-air buses, party tractors, or even pedal taverns full of people looking to have a good time while they explore all the city has to offer.
While they do look like fun, residents are growing concerned that it is only a matter of time that an accident occurs involving one of these modes of transportation. But, according to Fox 17, the city has managed to avoid “catastrophic accidents” so far and many of the operators of these vehicles say they are all for following the regulations that keep their riders and drivers safe. The news outlet spoke with Grant Rosenblatt, who has lived in Nashville for years and currently owns four open-air buses that travel downtown, there are rules set for passengers that promote safety.
Rosenblatt said, “We don’t let them straddle benches. We don’t let them stand up on the cup holders. All of our rail height is a legal rail height.” However, with the mix of party buses and drivers who are trying to get to their destination, you can imagine there is the risk with the two types of vehicles sharing the roadway.
When the news source spoke with a vendor who sells bracelets for charity on Broadway, she said “I definitely think the pedal taverns can be unsafe as you’re driving through. It’s really difficult to tell where they are all the time.” She also said, “I’ve definitely seen people almost fall off the pedal taverns as they’re on them.”
How can drivers help avoid an accident with one of these party rides?
Despite the fact that many think these modes of transportation may be dangerous or risky for riders, they are allowed to operate throughout the city of Nashville. And because we cannot afford to have any more accidents occur, here are a few things you can do to keep these party riders safe.
- Treat the bike pubs and party rides you encounter as you would a motorcyclist.
- Allow for extra space so that these party rides can maneuver safely on the roadway.
- Because many of these vehicles travel 45% slower than the average car on the roadway, avoid speeding or riding too close to them. If someone were to fall off, you wouldn’t want to be responsible for hitting them simply because you weren’t driving cautiously around them.
- If you have errands to run and would rather avoid sharing the roadway with these vehicles, you do have two open windows when they are not permitted to operate. According to Fox 17, the vehicles cannot run between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. as well as between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
