SMYRNA, TN – A preliminary report on the fatal May 29 plane crash in Percy Priest Lake that killed 7 people has been released by the National Transportation Safety Board.
At around 10 a.m. a Cessna 501 flew from the Smyrna Airport and was bound for Palm Beach International Airport.
Data showed that the plane changed headings multiple times before taking a steep left turn. At 10:55, the radar showed the plane was at around 700 feet and descending rapidly.
The plane crashed into an area of the lake that was from two to eight feet deep. So far, roughly two-thirds of the plane has been recovered from Percy Priest. The plane was not equipped with either a flight data recorder or a cockpit voice recorder .
Officials will release the final report of the crash within two years.
