The Bird and Lime scooters have made their way into the news yet again after two wrecks occurred in downtown Nashville involving vehicles.

When Lime and Bird first introduced their scooters to the public, many grew worried over the dangers associated with riding the electric scooter and some even fought to have them banned. While the companies managed to sustain and provide individuals with an alternative form of transportation for months, they have continued to receive criticism as more and more riders suffer from serious injuries in the accidents they are involved in. Nashville Public Radio recently reported that there have been some riders who have suffered brain trauma that was so severe that they would never be the same again. GM could be facing a recall after more than 100 complaints have been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding some of their vehicles. According to MLive, the NHTSA has “launched an investigation into about 2.7 million General Motors trucks and SUVs after receiving complaints concerning brake performance.” Apparently, a few wrecks have already occurred and two injuries have been reported in connection with the potentially defective vehicles. With Nashville’s population growing, more and more vehicles are occupying the streets which only makes things more dangerous for pedestrians. According to Nora Kern, who is the Executive Director of Walk Bike Nashville, pedestrian deaths are on the rise in the city. WSMV News 4 highlighted that “from 2014 to August 2018, 1,636 pedestrians were injured and 78 pedestrians were killed in crashes in Nashville. Last year, the city saw 23 people killed in accidents and 17 already this year.
